Mrs. Morris and Miss Cooper, Mistresses,

have both been on their maximum of £400 since January 1st,

1920.

The next most Senior Mistress is Mrs. Nightingale who

reached her maximum of £400 on April 1st, 1922.

I recommend that Mrs. Morris and Miss Cooper

should be granted two additional increments in view of their

seniority, and should draw £430 from 1st January, 1927.

The case of Miss Heang was specially

mentioned in paragraph 8 of my Confidential despatch of 15th

July.

With regard to all the other officers

concerned, such adjustment of salary as might be necessary in any particular case would be made so as to fit them into

the new scales as from 1st January, 1927, and a detailed

statement does not appear to be necessary.

Individual increases would be slight,

averaging about $35 in 1927 for Chinese Masters and

Mistresses, £8 for 9 British Mistresses, and £25 for not

more than 6 British Masters.

I should, however, make special mention of

Messrs. Lau Shuk-chong, Lam Tun-wing and Ch'an Tai-shang,

three Vernacular Sub-Inspectors who suffered in the manner

indicated in paragraph 11 of my despatch of 15th July.

Mr. Lau has hitherto been on the scale of

$1250-75-1550, and Messrs. Lam and Ch'an on one of $600-100-

Certain Vernacular Masters, their juniors

respectively, having on January 1st, 1926, received promotion which gave them higher salaries than their specially chosen seniors, it appeared right to me, subject to your approval, to place Mr. Lau on the scale of

Vernacular Master Class II ($1600-100-2000) and Hessrs.
